I am searching about binding energy calculation for heterostructure and found this article. In the attached refrence artice; Eb = (ECrI3/MoSeTe − ECrI3− EMoSeTe )/S, where ECrI3/MoSeTe, ECrI3, EMoSeTe, and S are the total energies of the heterostructure, bilayer CrI3, monolayer MoSeTe, and interface area, respectively is mentioned. In the above formula, S (interface area) is not clear to me. How can one calculate this S for any heterostructure. Please suggest.
